It,s black, has legs with little hairs or spikes.
maybe a pincer, only saw it for a second.
    Looks like a spider ??
    20 -30 mm in length.
And I never bought it !!
cant get to it without destroying my rocks.
Never seen it during the day.
just seen a fleeting glimse under dim light.
Have 2 skunk shrimps that do not seem to be bothered by it and they go in the same hole.
Stow away on my rocks but must have been real small when I got them (9 months ago) as I inspected them quite closely.

Not much to go on but any ideas?
Should I go after it or play it cool ?

hi, its probably a crab, i would go with gorilla crab, if no loses leave it, or catch it and leave it in your sump

cut the base of the 2L coke bottle, make it about 5cm high, add some gravel, very little, then place some frozen fish there after lights out and next day should have him caught.

when he gets bigger and more hungry he will wait till fish sleep and nosh them. take a glass leave it leaning against the liverock he is in. at an angle of approx 45 degrees place nori wrapped around pebble and held on with elastic in bottom of glass(just before lights out and the next morning voila! you can tell everyone you have caught crabs oops!

not sure if this will help but in most cases if the eyes are red its more likley to be fish eating than those without red eyes.. in my book if its a crab and has big nippers it must go.. rather safe than sushi:lol:

I mananged to get a look at it this morning.
    It's definatly a gorilla crab.
Its front half is black and the back is brown.
    It's a lot bigger than i thought.
Tried to use the glass to catch it .
    No luck.

    Thanks for all the help
    Regards
    Richard

make sure the lip of the glass is not higher than the lr it is leaning against and skip the afternoon feed in your tank, with no scraps around you will have better chance at lights out.. this method worked for my furry fella

good luck in ctaching him, but definatley do try. Its always an accident waiting to happen, especially as you say he has pincers. If you do get him you can sump him and keep him with a piece of lr on your dsb if u have one.
