    Hi all,

Yip,I last visited this site in December 2008,can't believe it was that long ago.

Apart from getting information from the internet regarding setting up my first marine tank,I was fortunate enough to meet up with a guy who has been involved in setting up such tanks for over 18 years! What a wealth of information he has been.

I have decided to let him guide me through the process of setting up and maintaining a successful marine tank.

As with most of the people I have spoken to regarding my first tank,he also told me not to cut any corners and do it right the first time!

At the moment I have the 1.2 x 500 x500 tank on the stand I have built to hold it.

We are going to start setting up the sump with the piping today.

I will let you all know how it goes.

    Regards

    Bullett

Hi guys, great to hear from you.

My marine tank consultant has just left!! I am really excited about this new hobby of mine.
Put the sump in place with the protein skimmer, did most of the plumbing. Am going to get an APH3000 pump to run the skimmer and an APH 4000 for the uplift pump. Will also be getting 2x2way 54 watt electronic ballasts for T5 tubes.
Also have the Arogonite ready for when the water goes in.
We will complete the setup tomorrow. I need to decide how I would like the rock setup, any advice will be appreciated.

    Cheers guys.

    Keep well.

    hello again bullet :)

great to hear that you are getting ready to fire the tank up, you certainly sound really excited. Also its great to hear you have expert advice leading you through the steps. If there is anything at all youare curious about and not sure of with regards to keeping a marine tank MASA really is a great place to learn. Its even friendly for the most part :)

how much LR do you intend to use for scaping, and what sort of reef are you looking for? Are you going mixed reef with LPS, softies and SPS, or are you more into the SPS side with a few long tentacles blowing in the currents?

    Hi Crispin,

I have found MASA fantastic. At the moment I am sticking to the advice I am getting from my expert.I have certainly saved a lot of money taking the route I have. Once set up with water in the tank plus the arogonite I will certainly be in touch more often.

Forgive my ignorance but,LPS,SPS,mixed reef??? I need to learn all the lingo!!

    Regards

SPS - small pollyp stony corals
mixed reef - all of the above plus maybe some soft corals like leathers, kenya trees, etc.
FOWLR - fish only with live rock (incase you didn't know)
LMAO - laugh my ass off :whistling:

    Thank's for that Tobes,

At least now I will know the lingo!

The expert is on his way to my house at the moment to do the final plumbing so that I can get ready to fire this tank of mine up.

I will post some pictures of the progress and would appreciate your comments.

    Chat soon

    Regards
