Is this thing dead? It's turning green around the edges.

I have not seen polyps extend on it since about day 3. It's been in there for about 3 weeks.

Looks like a white sponge or dying other sponge. The green may just be algae. If it is a white sponge then it need no light at all and normally grows under rocks. If the sponge was blue, yellow or orange then it is dying.

He said polyps havent extended so I am with Tony that its an sps of sorts...and one that is in very bad condition, maybe not completely gone just yet but seriously bleeched...agree though that the green areas are where it has died off and algae has grown.

If there hasn't polyp extension for a while and the algae is starting to invade the skeleton, my guess would be that its dead. How long have you had the coral and has it always been white?

She has labelled it as monti in her album. Think it does look like a very bleached monti.

Best thing to try is put the coral as low down in the tank as possible out of the light and see if the polys extend in the next few days.

Yes, it was a very pale orange when I got it, now it's worse. I moved it down. Thanks. :)

Has it been fading slowly since you got it or did it turn white in a few days?

By the looks of it, I would say that monti is already dead, especially since the algae started to grow on it. Sad part about the hobby. Hope u get a nice an healthy one next time.

Thanks. When I bought it, it was pretty pale in color. I'll try again. My water's in better shape now. I should have known not to add fish and coral the same week, and I was leaving the new LED's on for about 14 hours a day. :p I burned up a couple, before I found out that was a bit much.
