Not sure if those are magnetic or electronic, but you should try use the later, better efficiency

Electronic ballast should cost you around R200 for the Vosslo Schabe

On the overseas webs there is a lot of discussion on the over driving of T5 light tubes. They talk about "Ice Caps" Ballasts. I suppose these are 110v jobs and the 230v versions will require a second mortgage.

There are two types of T5 ballasts. One is the economy ballast used in low light applications where the emphasis is on energy saving, these ballasts take a long time to start and are meant for extended on time use and are therefore run cooler. The other is the HO (High output) ballast that the aquarium lights are made for. So when you purchase ballasts ensure that you get the HO ones.
Apart from those mentioned above you also get the following. BAG, Helvar, Philips and Tridonic.
