I would like to attach the bracket for a float switch inside my return chamber and inside my corner overflow. Can i use Marine Silicone with out shuting down the tank or will it poison my fish and inverts? it will be above the water level and not submerged but i'm concerned about the fumes.

Can somebody shed some light on this?

Not a problem, did this with a emergency overflow i had to do on my 2 foot tank, had water running over the Silicone 2 hours after job was done, changes colour to like a white, but other than that lost no corals or fish.
