My new sump has been running for three weeks now and I would like to remove all my old rock and redo the aquascaping now. All the rock I am using will be good lr, or big pieces of dead coral. The only exception is a piece of artificial rock that comes from some Durban LFS originally. It is white with small bubbles in it. I suspect some sort of cement was used to bind the aggregates together. What worries me is I would like cut the rock to fit into a certain space. Will it start to leach alkaline crap into the water when it is cut freshly? The rock itself is at least five years old and was used for most of the time.

The thing is you sometimes know the answer you are going to get when typing the question and then someone just confirms what you tried to deny.

be rather safe than sorry, and do the correct thing. you have no clue where and what has been done to that piece of stone or do you ? if its been out in the rain, used as a drain block or something ill chuck it. if its been in a established tank for 5 years and you took it straight out into yours yes then it should be ok..
