I got a quote on a 1kva pure sinewave inverter for R1185 and 2 12v 100something deep cycle batteries @ R890 each, please excuse my ignorance but this seems cheap.. Am I missing something here? I only need it to run my OR3500 return pump.

    Thanks

UPS Direct 879 8800. Batteries are Sunshine but rebranded UPS Direct. He said they are as good or better than Deltec but I wouldn't know.

    How old are the batteries?

Batteries lose capacity (both available amp-hour AND number of charge/discharge cycles) with age, and unscrupulous battery dealers often offer "specials" on old batteries. So, you might be paying 80% of the "normal" price, but only getting 50% of the capacity... I was nearly caught by such a scam, fortunately I did my research before parting with the money.

Thanks RM, he said he imports directly from China so that could be the case.

Says pure sine, so should be fine, but they could be a bit on the expensive side?

Warr, I would check the size (capacity) of the batteries. Also, are the batteries included in that price ?

With a 10A charger (bult in, hopefully...) the battery capacity might be slightly limited (my 2.2kVa has a 37A built-in charger), but the price sounds very good, especially if it comes with batteries.

Warr when phoning PSS ask for Bernard.... He hooked me up.
Aparently the guys that work their get units as bonusses or something and sometimes sell them again...
I got a 1KVA pure sine with batteries from him for around R2000. The batteries are diesel truck batteries...huge things I can't even pick-up.
I run my two big returns on it. CAn run them for like a day..

When I was looking for deep cycle batteries the 102a/h deep cycles were over R1000 a piece. Is that about right?
