When i am blowing out the detritus from my rocks and sand, i want to use an internal filter in the DT too. A lot of that detritus just ends up settling on the rocks and sand again. I want to use the internal filter stuffed with filter floss and run it only for a couple hours after blowing the rocks out. Might also polish the water a bit.

What do you think of this? Any problems with doing this?

I just use a filter sock on the drain that goes to the sump.

Some of the detritus does not even getting to the overflow. It just keeps on floating around the tank and settles on the rocks and sand again.

What filter do you have in mind? If it can't get to the overflow, I'm not sure it will get to the filter. You may want to add a power head for a few hours near the bottom, but far enough away that you don't have a sand storm to keep things moving more.

Adding a filter for a few hours certainly won't hurt anything.

had in mind just one of the small internal filters, Its like a pump with a chamber on the bottom for filter medium. Sucking in the water through the chamber, and then out the top.
They usually used on fresh water setups (where my filter was originally used).

Sounds like adding it wont be a problem. Just wanted to make sure though.
