    Hi everyone
I am going to install 2 150w metal halides and i was wondering how close to the surface I can safely put them.
I also have two sunon 240v 60hz 0.08A fans to install to keep the heat down
    Thanks

20cm from water surface depending on how deep your tank is

    Welcome to MASA hammers :)
Renannchen is correct. 15-20cm above water level is ideal.

    thanks for the welcome guys
the reason why i ask is that i have a canopy which ill now have to cut open at the top to mount them, if i mount them inside they will hang about 150mm off the surface.

Mine are way closer (like 5cm) - and although it works it does give "spotlight" effects - try go min 20cm IMO
