    Hi all

Was a bit bored so gonna start this thread. Working at the Two Oceans aquarium(TOA) is an awesome experience, especially for a reefkeeper. Gonna post pics of what goes on behind the scenes :)

@ Mistaorange. We rescue the turtles because they are supposed to be on the Indian ocean side, some get swept away by the Aghulas currents and land up at our side here in cape town where the water is too cold and they cannot survive for long. When we rescue them from simonstown etc, they are dehydrated, weak and dying, that particular beauty couldnt even move, let alone keep herself buoyant. The air bladders were attatched so she could stay afloat and breathe.

Thanks guys!! Really appreciate the comments, we arent just an aquarium, we are conservation in action and do our best to educate at all levels.

Take a look at the 2nd last pic, that thing that looks like a crane, produces the to and fro motion in the water for the kelp forest, it puts the Tunze wavebox to shame :)

I will arrange for a tour for around the 19th of may, or another sunday after that. Is everyone a 'Solemate'? I think you would want to be after seeing how the exhibits are plumbed :) 400L of free sea H2O a week for a year, for only R270! and unlimited access to the aquarium...

I'll open a thread a week before i arrange the tour to get headcount etc. I'll explain how everything works and show you where the money goes(feeding all the animals) and explain our conservation projects(saving seals, turtles and penguins etc). Will be an honor showing u guys around.

wow this is super exciting! do you have phos readings on water supplied? i was concerned cos i heard that the phosphate and iron levels of water was very high. i keep my perams very controlled for sps so it may not suite me although guys with softies and fowlr tanks will really score.

MistaOrange, I havn't really been to any meets

Mandarinman, I have not tested the water myself but all our exhibits have a constant in inflow of the water and the 'dirty' water overflows and drains back out to sea. We encourage people to phone before collecting water as it sometimes does vary, but I don't wanna bull shit cus as I say I havnt tested it myself, if i get a chance to test the water I will let you know.
