    Hi All

I currently have some cheato in my sump & am looking to remove it & rather run an ATS.

The reason is the light I am using & where my cheato is

If I remove the cheato will an ATS be a replacement?

I know some people run both I could but really would like to get away from "Free" floating things & lots of light in my sump.

ATS is the way and will eventually out compete the cheato. ATS chows iodene. be aware of that

Ubnless your scrubber will be remote, you still would need those lights under the tank.

Also ATS takes at least 4 weeks to be effective. So there will be a time period where you need to run both.

Best ATS is one that is extremely easy to clean. Notice the "extremely" word. There for a purpose.

    thanks Gents

Yea I think the design team need to think before making anything. I want a Kiss one & If it's 80% affective it sounds like it still is much better then cheato.

& it's easy to contain the direct spot lights for the ATS where my Cheato is using 2 x 39W T5's

Mark, IF i had to decide on either one...it would be an ATS. The best i have ever seen my tank was when i had my scrubber fully broken in and harvesting the thick tough turf.

The cons though are space, heavy flow, accessibility for easy cleaning and of course lighting....but IMO the rewards on your tank are better.

Run your cheato and increase the lighting you have. Run Phosphate media and change every 2 months. I think that phosphate media very important in keeping your phosphates always down to zero. Anthony Clafo speaks of running your nitrates between 5 and 10, as the corals grow better and show nice colour. With the ULNS you corals seem so strave.

imo it is easier to pull out a handful of chaeto when it grows too much than having to clean an algae filter

Thats the same reason i havent gone the ats route mandarinman, the easier something is to do the more likely you'll get down to actually doing it:p although i grow macro algaes not cheato as my tangs enjoy it as a snack now and then.
