    Hi Guys,

Would like your thoughts on this please.

I'm starting a 500L second reef. I was thinking of starting the tank off with NSW from the 2 Oceans Aquarium.

Once finished cycling maintaining the tank with Synthetic salt mix as I'm using on my current reef ?

Beside the potential algae problems would this be OK to do i.e initially 500L NSW and then switch to synthetic salt ?

    Your thoughts.

2 ocean water not that bad. I run my tank on that water and its fine. For the cycle it would be fine.

Go for it. If the water isnt skimmed and is used immediately then there is generally a high amount of bacteria in the water column. I have however heard from posts on the forum that their water is high in nitrates and phosphates. If you add bacteria and a possible phosphate sponge the nutrients can be reduced to prevent problems further down the road.

Rather use it straight away. To be on the safe side test the water (nitrates, phosphates, salinity, etc) before adding it to your tank. Some people have had issues with the water but seeing as it gets pumped out the ocean, its parameters will be vary from time to time.
