    Hi guys
    Sorry for the stupid question
Want to know what's the easiest way of doing a tank transfer? Will have to be transferring the sand also? Please help me by stating how long should I wait before adding livestock and will the live rock go in as soon as the old tank water goes in?
    Thanks

Would I also need to buy any chemicals? Or bacteria?

Can we have more info on the old and new tanks. I'd make sure you have some sea chem stability available.

    Hi butcherman
The current tank is total 100L I'm using hangon back skimmer, also using filter wool, activated carbon, nitrax sponge.
About 15 kg live rock in the tank and more in my quarantine tank.
Also roughly about 12kg sand bed

The tank I want to transfer to is a 62L with a 13L sump that's behind the tank same as a hang on sump with a protein skimmer in it
It has a gutter/ roof filter which can detach

My live stock are 2 clowns, discosoma mushroom coral, and a small anemone

I can get seachem stability tomorrow

Id suggest get one of those black storage bins. Put live stock in there with a small heater.

Then try get as much of the old water into your new tank. Then just fill up the rest with newly mixed salt. Obv before topping up add your liverock and sand. The water will probably be very murky from dirt in the sand so get lots of filter wool to catch most of it.

    Then add you livestock back.

Then just add a bacteria source stability/special blend/biodigest daily for awhile

Good luck bud, I did this last weekend, not fun. First of all it took the entire weekend, didn't make enough water, had a leaking return line for almost a week, and then after finally getting that sorted, tank runs fine for 2 days, and the return pump starts tripping electricity. Maybe it was just me, but as i said, good luck!

Hey CameL sorry for all you went through
Tank tranfers aren't fun at all. Although I'm transfering into smaller tank I feel for those who do big ones. I put the live stock in a spare fish tank with a power head running and one clownfish decides to take a jump infront of me thank god I saw him and his fine now, drops of water everywhere and also hearing my mother the whole day mop that up mop that up mop that up...
