hi added a mandarin goby 2 days ago to my system. he acclimated well and he was going around my tank like he was there for years. i know they a finicky fish. i looked for him the following day and he was stuck in my pump and dead . i do have a purple reef lobster and the mandarin was a small guy. u guys think it was the lobter who stalked him at night? or he got sucked in the pump while swimming maybe?

    thanks

damsels are the spawn of satan, could be that he harassed the mandarin.
how long was he in the tank before u found him against the pump?
imo, most crucial time for new additons are in the first week where they could go either way, depending on params and other inhabitants

Very seldom that a healthy fish will get sucked onto a pump, it's possible the mandarin may not have been 100% healthy and may have been in a weakened state when you bought him.

haha, ja to catch him was a bugger, I had my friend hold a big net one side, and I came chasing him with the small net, and then he jumped into my overflow box onto the bio balls net, and I just took him from there, what else you can do is, take your net, and put a treat for him inside, but keep the net high in tank, not to low, they are damb quick... And when you got him, place your hand over the net, else they jump out at the last second...

i will try both those methods. i netted my maroon clown while he was asleep. maroon clowns far worse than any damsel.!!!!! i still wonder about the lobster. i dont want any x-factors in my reef, so wen something like this happens then u know it wasnt killed by another inmate.
