Hi All,

I'm in the market for a good quality second hand piano to buy for my youngest daughter (who is a bit of a musical type, unlike her dad :)). The piano does not need to look good, but it must be of a reputable make, and the working parts must be in good nick - in other words, it is OK if it looks shit, but it must sound good and play well.

Alternatively, if someone has 'connections' with a shop selling reasonably priced new pianos or good quality new electronic (digital???) pianos, I would appreciate contact info, etc.

Thanks,
Hennie

Actually, Rock & Roll is pretty old as well, going on for 50+ years now :) ... and if you listen closely, most original Rock & Roll music has a piano playing somewhere in the song :slayer:

OK folks - this is getting serious now... Must make a decision by this afternoon.

At this stage it looks like a toss-up between an old Otto Bach and a new electronic Kawai

The Otto is not a bad piano, but sound varies...Ask someone that can play to test it for you...The ones with good sound has really good sound...
Be sure to check out the felt lining of the old piano as well. That has a big influence on sound quality and the feel of the piano...

Does the electronic have piano touch? If it does perhasp not a bad idea...
The up side it doesn't need to be tuned...but you do give up the actualy feel of a real piano...

P.S
Make sure somebody doesn;t try and take you for a ride with a woden frameds old piano...it must be cast iron or it is shit!!

OK, thanks for the info. My daughter has settled on the Otto Bach - pretty decent price at R8000.00, and it has been checked out by a piano tuner who reckons it's in a good condition. I would personally have preferred the 'digital', but as I'm not going to be playing (only paying...) it's not my choice that counts.
