    Hi Submariner

i was going to email, but i thought this Q might help a view reefers

I am setting up a 1200x800x500 SPS reef tank, and its going to be 3 sides viewable so the SPS and rock will be in the center of the tank about 700x400 foot print, what is the light dispersal on the ILLUMILUX range, would one ILLUMILUX 1200 be sufficient as the main light across the center of the tank 15cm above or 2 x ILLUMILUX 900 over the center,

    thanks

You hit the nail on the head there Singularity.

The light spread on the Illumilux is very good for a Led light.

You will get around 300 mm light spread from a single unit.

    A 900 long Illumilux unit will cover 1200 x 300 .

Two units will be spot on for that size tank.

I really have to compliment you all. South Africa has made the best use of the Illumilux IMO. It is a great unit and the logical replacement for a T5 set-up, in that it does not have all the fancy stuff of the Illuminal, but gives you real scope in designing and developing your own custom approach.

    Nathan, nice work! Really.

The V-Link is for the Illumina, which has the on-board computer. The V-Link then allows you to programm the unit via your laptop using our Desk Top software (freeware downloadable from our website and regularly up-dated) This is the really top-line LED lamp we produce, where you can create very complex programms; true moon cycles, cloud and storm programms, sunrise-sunset effects, etc. We have just added a sub-programm to monitor running temperature. Of course, I use one at home and have a great deal of fun trying out programms and seeing how corals respond to various light regimens.

The Illumilux is the 1:1 replacement for a T5 or a supplemental lighting for those wanting more light or a specific spectrum (it comes in 5 flavours). It is controllable, but not self-programmable, as the on-board hardware is less complex.

Truly, don't be nervous about changing from T5. Your corals we be most happy under LEDs. What you will notice, as with any lighting change, the corals will slowly mature to somewhat different tones. This is the normal adjustment to a new spectrum. I'm sure you've seen Nathan's tank, which is a nice expample.

DallasG, Im running the Illimulux on my new Cube and illimunia on my bigger cube, I will never use anything.
    else..

Like Jamie mentioned, it did take my corals about a month or 2 to give me the same colours as my then T5 setup. but now they look 10x better

I have a 1.8m x 650mm x 650mm tank with the water at 600mm. I origanaly bought 8 x 600mm of the llimulux units. I did this because of the depth and found that I had to disconect 2 of them and my SPS is growing like crazy. If any one is interested in the 2 that were only running for about 4 weeks you can pm me.

Great to hear all the positive feedback.

I have to say i am not suprised, both the Illumilux and the Illumina are without a doubt in my opinion the best LED lighting options available in S. A. today, Vertex's decision to run the cree LED'S without optics was Key and is what makes there lights so efficient at lighting larger aquariums, couple this with the high build quality and controllability and you have a winning combination.

I am currently running my own personal aquarium with the Illumina 1200 long SR200

    This single SR200 1200 long Illumina fixture lights my tank 1500 l x 1000 w x 500 deep

with over 20 SPS colonies ranging from 12 to 40 cm in size this is a amazing achievement from a light using only 320 watts.

give my tank specs in the first post
my reef will be central with SPS and LPS on the sand and fringes
how about a illumina SR300 for the middle, and 2 illumilux 600 for the edges
    OR
2 illumilux 600 and 2 illumilux 900 over the center

    Hi Dallas

i would still go with the 900 long illumilux units on your tank you will get enough light coverage with three units.
