I want to add an eggcrate platform to raise my LR of the tank bottom as i am getting lots of LR sand building at the bottom and around the rocks. Is there any way of doing this without me having to take the LR out of the tank? I want to build just 1 platform and have All LR resting on it. Will have a pump blowing under it to get all detritus in suspension.

Move the LR aside, place the stand in, and then place the rocks back on top of the stand?

Hey there buddy Its best you build this in partitions of two or three then you can put one in then load the rock on that and so on and so on - also I found eggcrate platforms to be more steady if they are built like this than one huge piece across the floor - you can also create a space inbetween the platforms but join them with rock bridges so that it looks more natural!

Just ensure that you support the eggcrate stand properly.

Eggcrate do became brittle over time, and with too much weight it will give in, resulting in a rock fall and cracked bottom.

Multiple short 50mm pipes pieces standing up should work. But each will be a detritus trap in itself. Just long enough to lift the LR above the substrate, without being too visisble. But you must keep in mind. All the weight must now be destibuted on these stands. So the more the better.

Or put two longer 50mm pipes flat, with eggcrate on that. Then you should destribute the weight better.

Guys instead of 50mm pipes i've used 40mm square trunking with the lid removed so with pumps running under the eggcrate there was no chance of detritus building up - found it also to be easier to mount to eggcrate and a little more steady than pipes which have to be cut perfectly sqaure for it to sit flat especially on a BB - the square trunking is a little more forgiving in this manner!
