    Anyone want to take a stab at identifying what this nasty looking stuff is? The first pic is what i could see from the outside and when i broke open the rock, the 2nd pic was the result! :eek:

    looks like some type of sponge.

    It just looked really nasty and was taking over the rock inside and out!
    Better safe than sorry.....had to remove the rock.

    its a sponge or turnicate, but its safe, a filter feeder

    The first pic looks like its the bottom part of a rock anemone...

    I Googled rock anenome...definitely not one of those! LOL
    It looked nasty and was spreading fast so i opted to be over cautious!
    Thanks for the feedback though...

    lol, yeah it is sponge, just also looks like the bottom part of a rock pool anemone..
