    Hi Guys,

I see the below every time I go to melkboss strand.
I see if you touch the middle it rolls completely up.

I would really like to know what this is.
Is this a type of Anemone.

IIRC they are a cold water species, they probably wont survive in a reeftank....

All different rock anemones. A lot of colors. Normally with their foot inside a gap in the rocks. Cape water types will not survive. But around Durban there are others. From Blue to red, green, brown, and white ones.

If you want to remove it, it is not easy, and if it pulled back to a ball, then you could attempt to remove it. But normally you can not get your finger around never mind under them. If you can, just softy run your nail under the foot, working it softly until you get him to let go. But if you think you can not remove him, please do not try, do not hurt it and then just leave it.

I got a few, 3 red flower pot anemones. A blue one, and another light pink color. Very nice. And they are mostly non photo-synthetic. Although you will find them in the sun you will need to feed them fish or something small.

I saw in December a pure white one just north of Ballito. In full sun. But there was no way that I could get him out. Also saw another bright orange one in Ballito. Got it, but it did get hurt and 2 weeks later the foot were it got hurt went all slimey and it died. What I pity.

You get smaller ones. The Natal Rock anemone, is a dark green color. When fully open, they are about the size of a R5.

The red Flower pot anemones ar a lot bigger. About 10cm across. Yip I believe that small fish could be caught. But then again you got the same problem with all other anemones. But so far no problem.

check out this thread where I asked for its proper name.

Hi Clown - they are called "rock anemone's or flower anemone's" (I have seen them referred to as "flow rock anemone's" as well)..... There are millions of them when you do shallow shore entry dives (SCUBA) at the dive sites all around the peninsula. They are EXTREMELY colorful!
