hey guys, I was given 3 fish and just wanted to make sure what they are. The one is an angel but doesn't look like my semi circularis. The other 2 are pipe fish. Apparently they weren't eating but don't seem to stop eating in my tank. They eat the frozen food I put in and eat a lot. Would love to know the species please and if they're fine for my reef tank.

    Thanks

The angel is a old woman dont know how to spell the proper name ( rhomboidi). It will eat corals if you have any. The pipe fish look local so u not allowed to keep them.

@RiaanP what should I do with the pipe fish if its local...take it to ushaka? I cant release it!
@Lord_Blackadder does the fish look a little more like a Pomacanthus annularis or an old woman?

I think it's because it was given to him by someone else. You are not allowed to give away or sell any local caught fish.

Edit: I think it's also on the list of things you cannot catch. Like hard corals and sea horses.

Copied from the another thread. Think it's called laws and regulations of local fish or something

EDIT: The thread is called The law of fish collecting in SA

thanks @TaahirS I would like to know then what I must do legally with it...i cant release it so what do I do with it. It was either me taking it or it was to swim down the toilet....i chose to save it but now I'm worried about keeping it. They are both eating frozen marine mix.

I'm 90% sure they local seeing as the angel is local and they look like the local ones. Not your fault people are on these sights to learn and if u collecting fish u should know the laws around what u can and cant collect so whoever caught them should have known better. Either tell everyone they died and dont post about them again or else im sure your local oceanarium will take them from you which would b the better way to go. Maybe just give them a call and find out if they will take them from u.

I guess you have to give it back to the person you got it from or kill it, as mad as that sounds. I'm not in the habit of killing my pets, but anyway. I hope there will be no need to close this thread if emotions run too high as they always seem to do. But thanks for the thread btw, I had completely forgotten that local pipefish were illegal to collect.

@viper357 I took the pipefish to ushaka and told them I was given them. The guy there explained all the ins and out of this species and told me they didn't even have a pair:eek: . We took a walk to the ponds next to ushaka where we released them....the ponds have a variety of marine life in them and an area with rocks where they can hide. He explained that a lot of fish are released there and that area is a safe zone where they wouldn't be harmed or recaptured. All ended well for the buggers.;)
