    It might be funny but have you ever seen what Algae looks like in the ocean? I'm sure if you saw what it looked like you wouldn't be laughing... Unfortunately not all of us were born with your extreme knowledge of what and what not to collect. It's a learning curb and I'll take it.
    Keep paying your high prices for stuff and I'll keep collecting my algae and enjoying ever minute of it.

    Lol, calm down. Just kidding. I live in jhb, I can't collect algae even if I wanted to

    But here's some free advice anyway, since you seem to prefer free, if you not sure what it is, just leave it behind, lol.

    Rockfire...don't mock someone for asking an honest question. You learn by asking others.
    If it's such a funny post, can you please provide the correct species of algae

    Mozie, not many of the local algae thrive in our tanks. They often require really intense lighting and higher nutrients. As pointed out by 4age and nella, that does look like a type of bubble algae that you don't want in your tank.
    What is that flat green bit at the bottom?

    @459b thanks for that info.
    The flat green stuff is just nori, was feeding my fish and they pulled it off the clip.

    @Mozzie, ignore Rockfire and ask away. We all had to start somewhere.

    As already stated it is bubble algae. (Valonia sp.) Most fish do not eat it and it can rapidly spread in a tank. So best to toss it.
