I found this on my live rock it seems to have the texture of a starfish and there are always 4 parts sticking out the hole, had the rock in for about 3 days and it doesn't come out any further

I thought it might be there is another one in another hole but they don't come out, would they survive in a 2 week old tank???

What you can try is to put a LITTLE BIT, yes only a LITTLE BIT of fish food in the tank, and watch it closely. It should come out more, and then you'll be able to see what it is. I did this, and discovered a few bristleworms. Initially I thought it's a brittle star :(

I will try but I have not bought any fish food yet (nothing to feed) except som plankton for the feather dusters, What about a small piece of prawn meat, would that lure it out?

There are 3 places in total that 4 tentacles, legs... come out and it is all at the same time, i have seen bristle worms darting around the rocks and some that just sit around, but haven't seen these before

Innocent little brittle stars, they tend to spend 90% of the time hidden in holes in the rocks with their tentacles out to catch food.

You could even try a small bit of the plankton. I'm sure it's smell would lure them out (my hermits and brstleworms go crazy when I feed the corals). If that doesn't work try a tiny piece of of prawn meat. I think if it doesn't lure it out, it might very well be a starfish, as I haven't seen them actively come out to go after food, whereas the bristleworms do.

I spoke to the lfs and they said the mushroom is hardy should survive

I'm not planning on adding anything until feb so my tank can cycle for 2 months

Hmm... looked like the legs of a crab at first, but yeah, probably a mini brittle star.
