I'm not an expert in the field of snails but anything with that many spikes on it's shell I would think is not good....

They prey on other mollusk, especially bi-valves. They drill, actually lick a hole into their victims shell and then suck out the soft inside. They are the biggest threat to mussel farms.

Here is a warning I put up some time ago. See the damage.

ok, depending on where you got it.

    scientific name
Chicoreus Austramosus, from the family Muricidae

upto 50mm Cream to pale orage, and it is an uncommon snail. From south of Durban to East London.

Problem is that on your pic, if it is the correct snail, it is missing an extension behind the opening. That might be broken off, or its because the pic is not from directly straight up.
    Chicoreus (Chicoreus) austramosus

    The Muricidae family is big.
in my one snail book it goes from page 176 to 270.

My snail Auntie came back to me.
    Chicoreus Groshi

From Mozambique to Natal south coast. up to 40mm, also uncommon. That might explain the missing piece in the back.

    Chicoreus (Triplex) groschi

Awesome thanks Riaan, It hat to come in on a piece of Indo LR as its the only type of LR I bought. I saw it (didn't know it at the time) about 3 months ago and when I looked for it 5 min later to inspect it it was gone. It re appeared night before last.
    So he's probably a double hitchiker :)

So what do I do with him?

If it is from Indonesia, then my aunt will want it.
Keep it in your sump. We can one day organise to get together, maybe at the next meeting.
