not the clearest picture, but it looks like an anemone of sorts.

    hi

I had to reduce the image size before uploading so I suppose that is why the pic isnt clear. I will retry now.

Difficult, does look like a type of anemone, could be one of the many different types of majano anemone's, can see a stubby tentacle or two there so maybe.

I think it could possibly also be a sponge. What happens when you poke it?

Hmmm, @Anemone - sorry to call you in on this one, but got any idea?

I'm with Viper on this... I'm also thinking a nennie of sorts, quite possibly a sort of majano?

Well, I haven't poked it...pinged or nudged it (LOL, sorry but I just had to) but no, havent done that. It does have a number of tentacles...

Basically is it bad or good. It's has been "growing" I think....You know how staring at LR can make you see things...

Poke it then see.. If it retracts into a hole etc then its most probably a nennie and most probably a pest

Look like an Aiptasia sp. to me.

Looks like the LR is reasonably well cured, so it was probably in a holding tank at the LFS for a while, which means it was quite likely exposed to Aiptasia.

Does this look like what you've got in the tank? aiptasia - Google Search

    Hi

    Thanks for the reply.

    it looks like this

But a small version. Also just noticed that when the lights are off it protrudes more (tentacles comes of the rock) than when the lights are on.

So from your link I am assuming that this critter must RIP. I've read many solutions, what do you guys suggest as the best method of removal?

    Thanks again.

I've tried a number of methods. I'm currently breeding the Aiptasia eating seaslug, Berghia. This is probably the best method of controlling/eliminating a proper plague of Aiptasia.

For just one Aiptasia, my preferred method is to cook the area. I take a liter or two of boiling fresh water and then siphon it out over the anemone. Make sure the pumps are off so that the hot water stays in a cloud over the anemone. This cooks the rock good and proper ;)

    Good luck!

Hmmm, it could be an anemone. I'm not seeing the tentacles that Dean is seeing. Try giving it a tiny piece of food and see if it closes up around it.

Injecting it with liquid calcium will also kill and prevent it from releasing eggs… only you have to push the needle in the top and squirt the calcium at the same time...do this before the lights go out..remove the slime from the tank in the morning it would have climed out its hole and be on the surface of the rock..
