To start a reef. How long does it take? And how much does a reef grow to a certain time period on average?

Im still too inexperienced to reef on my own...but id like to learn about the subject.

Under good water quality and stable water parameters (or should i say all of the basics, ie.skimming flow, lighting, etc....). A reef grows pretty fast. eg. My Monti grows +-2cm every month.

wow Mek that's amazing, you should take pics of it and track it over time, it would be VERY cool to see how your corals grew in a year's time! :)

Another good method to keep track of growth, is to use an underwater scale and place your coral on top of that. That way you can notice growth by weight of the coral. I know this is done overseas. Not too sure if anyone in SA is doing so.
