Always good practice to research on any fish, coral or inverts before you purchase them from any LFS.

The batfish is one of the easiest batfish species to feed. They prefer a meaty diet consisting of a variety of different foods such as chopped up shrimp, mussels, crab meat and scallops. It is good to complement the diet with vitamin enriched brine shrimp and shrimp mix or similar containing vegetables. They only seldom learn to accept pellets. It can be trained to take food from your fingers.

For some unusual reason Batfish usually go batty over bananas.
When we have introduced Batfish into the Tropical Tank at Bayworld they usually were hesitant to get to the food fast enough and were outcompeted by the other fish in the tank. We resorted to handfeeding them ripe banana, they love the smell and taste. At first the surgeons and other fish did not show as much interest in the banana and this gave us the opportunity to feed them with other foods without the whole tank coming for a feed. Once they were eating properly they will eat anything including squid, hake and pilchard, as well as pellets. Eventually the other fish in the tank learn to recognise banana as something edible so the window period is small for your initial period of enticing them to eat without interference from other fish.

quite a number of dive opperators in egypt and other areas of red sea use nanas to attract reef fish during a dive. ive never used it in an aquarium though.

Peel it, hold it in the tank near the top and they come to the banana, ripish ones are better/softer. The smell in the water attracts them.
Not sure how a protein skimmer will react
