So I have been living on: Aquarium Fish: Tropical Freshwater Fish and Saltwater Fish for Home Aquariums

I am trying to get a mix of what I want in my tank. I don't have a clue I want all of them!

Wow how did you guys choose :)

Also can different live rock (from Fuji, Kenya etc) live together?

I so want to start but keep slapping myself over the wrist. I almost want to buy a bit of equipment or two a month :)

    HELP!

    hey bro

My suggestion on tank size is find a spot you want to place the tank away from doos and pasages and that will help you decide on the size. then see how wide (not high0 you can go.

As for the rock you can mix it together, it will actually be good to do so as it will basically cross polinate and ovver a larger biodiversity to the system

    As for equipment:
go basic to start going BIG on items such as a protein skimmer. when i say big i mean a good branded name with good reviews excellent track records and with good back up service.

The rest we can teach you

There is no hury to start the system so take a breather plan your system run it by us and we will refine it to a point where you are happy with it.

Thank you @Leslie, I am talking more around what type of animals, LPS and SPS am I going to get I know the tank size well I know the length not sure about the height or width yet. Length is going to be 1 and 1/2 meters not sure what that is in feet.

I agree, luckly I have a healthy cash flow :) so I am not to worried about over spending on the crucial items like the pumps, skimmers and lights

I am looking at all the animals and thinking I want them all but need to understand I can't.

I want an eel but they eat everything, I want some clams but the Level of difficulty and the lighting adjusting you do sounds insane. Then I like the tangs but they seem to not like other fish (Or so that is what it says).

    CLAMS

    TANG

Love the puffer fish but again difficult to maintain and eat coral, can't keep sea horses cause they get eaten by almost everything :)

Blue dotted octopus is beautiful but will destroy anything in it's path :)

Then I get to the collectors corner on the site (I am really looking for the exotics :) the "what the hell is that is it a fish?" type of creatures :)

I think I might be getting an idea of the hardware I require, I will need to visit a few shops (which I will on the weekend) like Dorry Pets etc and start seeing what they say from a hardware perspective. I am set on the length i.e. 1 1/2 meteres need to figure out the hight and or the width.

    another question:

Given that some corals like loads of light and some like little light can you have both of them in the same tank but at different levels in the water provided that you use LR to lower or lift the coral to the light.

Or is it the type of light the bulb gives vs the amount of light......

    Hi mytank,

les gave you some good advice there , but I would like to add onto that.

Firstly decide on what you would like to keep ...your "whish list" seems a bit erratic (trust me , all of ours do at some stage or another). It boils down to knowing your inmates IMHO, obviously not all are compatible , but also bear in mind that different species require different habitats.

Then look at your space , time available , budget etc.

Then look at the required hardware , example , heavy feeders ie eels will require better filtration than a softy only tank with a clown or two.

Rather spend a few hours on the net thinking researching your system , inmates etc than just throwing money at it ...will be worthwile in the long run

O yes..trust me , the local LFS will happily rearrange your "healthy cash flow " if you dont come prepared :whistling:

three at one stage, but now two a nano and 680lt but nothing too extreme i dont have time to cater for more specialised critters that need special treatment.
