    Hi Guys,

I discovered two colonies of Hydroids on two pieces of live rock this morning. Brown tubes with green heads looking like featherdusters. From the photo's on the net I identified them as Hydroids. Does anybody know how to get rid of these, as I believe they can cause some serious damage ??

I also have white and brown featherduster-like stuff popping up all over the live rock, which can be seen in these pictures :

Brown ones can be seen on the edges of these :

    Any advise please ??

Do you have a pic of the hydroids?
The feather duster like stuff n the pics is the polyps from the coral. The liverock you have is made up of Heliopora and you were lucky enough to get pieces that still have a lot of live coral on it.

Oh, so its actually a good thing then ? :)

Unfortunately the Hydroids I identified sits underneath two rocks and are bunches of brown tubes with greenish heads. Due to their location I cannot get a decent picture.

    Thanks for the reply.

I don't see anything to worry about there.
It does look like coral, looks a bit like fire coral.
Why are hydroids so bad, I had a lot of them without any problems.

Well, sounds like I got lucky then... better start finding out how to keep them alive.

Maybe paying the price I paid for the 10kg live rock was an investment afterall ;-)

    Thanks guys

I looked it up looks like it is Heliopora coerulea. like 459 said.
It is weird because if you look the coral up it looks like your live rock is just the skeloton of this coral.
I guess its just coming back to life.

I also looked it up and it is actually Heliopora coerulea like 459 said.
I bought this "Fiji Live Rock" from Sams a day after it arrived... who new there would still be pieces alive in there.....

Thanks everyone for the help... thought I am in for a fight after only 6 weeks.

    Luckily I installed LED Strips ( together with the 2 x Pl24's ) in my TL 550 yesterday, as I see they like decent lighting... added 2 x 20 000K Blue and 2 x 7 500K White strips just yesterday. ( What a difference )

Did you see the price they charge for these.... woohoo... I can make a profit... LOL
