Please can some one give me advice how to get rid of brittle starfish. Hundreds in all my tanks. There is not a open hole in the live rock every small hole got brittle stars in. Behide the wave makers in my polyps, they seems to saffocate from all the brittle stars. Wrasse not helping. Thanks.

why kill your clean up crew?

If you got hundreds, then that means that there is enough food for them to multiply to that numbers. Take them out and what will happen to the food, detritus and whatever they eat at the moment?

Rather be glad you got them.

When feeding my fish 2-3 min all food eaten. Don't want to really kill them, they die very easy. Maybe breeding time, hundreds of small ones. They completely close the grit of my overflow. Never have a sick fish or a outbreak of a disease in the tank. I don't know what they really eats, except maybe all the spawning in the tank. Chromis, Anthias, cleaner shrimps, harlequin shrimps, and clowns do breed. I got plenty of live rock in my sump, i put all the small ones in there what i take off the grit.

Hi RiaanP, you got a point there, i don't know what they eat, what ever they eat must be plenty full. Brittle stars are very fragile they die very easy.

Hi, i am on a mission today. the brittle star fish want them out. my tube worms disappearing, some the feathers is of. while i did i midnight round check on my tank saw the brittle stars all over a tube worm. as i watch they pull it out and munch on him. they not save for my tank. they covering the polyp also smothering them. not all spot a orange crab with white stripe around his legs eating my zoas. 5 wrasse, 4 Harlequin do nothing. my last resort will be to take every ting out and start hand pic them out.

I had a 15cm Coris formosa that used to swallow them whole. I'd throw in 10 and it'd eat them all in about 30 seconds.
