The light on my Boyu HS60 seems to have lost its will to live....it actually packed in 5 weeks ago and I took it to my trusty electrician friend to fix.....who turns out to not be that trusty. So Im over the temp t5 setup and need to get this thing back up and running asap.

When it died, I put on the light and it flickered like it was starting up and I walked off, walked by the tank 30 mins later and it was off completely. I tried taking it apart to check for loose wires, changed the bulb and it still did nothing at all. There seems to be power coming from the transformer thing as the fans switch on when I try power the light on. I checked the fuse which is fine. Like a true genius I decided to push the fuse in with my finger....took me a while to work out what happened but yep it shocked the hell out of me...so that seems to be working too.

Anybody know of someone in Cape Town that can have a look at this for me? Or where I can get a halide light service kit? I think I saw a service kit once.

    Thanks

But do think you will need a new ballast @Ayoob He could sort you out with a electronic ballast, spoke to him yesterday and said his putting up some MH fittings for sale.

Sounds to me like the ignitor needs replacement.
Would you know if its an electronic ballast or magnetic?

Yeah I think the ballast must have packed in, just not sure if it is worth replacing right now though. I am going to get 2 new 150w Solarmax units and start building a new tank, then I will move all my livestock over and shut the boyu tank down for a while. Then once the boyu is shut down i can spend sometime slowly fixing it up. At least that way there will be no rush to get the stock back in the tank once it is emptied, I just hate having to rush when doing any mods to a tank, you always land up filling the tank then remembering something else you should have done.
