Step1: Get into the fetal position
Step2: Begin with knocking your head against a brick wall
Step3: Begin talking to yourself with insanity in your voice and repeat over and over "WHY WHY WHY!!!"
step4: Begin to think that everything will be OK and you can start all over again.
Step5: Remember all what you have done to get your tank too look like it did and begin again at step1.

    Ok seriously what happened?

Electricity is both the love of this hobby and it's death! Do you know if it was due to oxygen shortage or temp or a mix of both?

    Hahaha always a silver lining:p

while its a tradegy, i hope everyone learns that backup power is just as important or even more as your designer skimmers and LED lights

backup power should be bought first and your system planned around it

while i agree with you i do believe that everything plays its role and you are essentially as vulnerable as your least reliable piece of equipment..

heaters, chillers, additives, flow pumps etc etc all play an important role and if one were to fail EG: a cheap pump burn out or a goedkoop heater were to remain on you would be as weak as that item..

just a question.. if he were less stocked would it have made a difference? ie: could his inhabitants have pulled through?

back up power is definatley a critical piece of equipment as it will keep the biological functions and oxygenation levels up to notmal in such an outage..

I don't think most of our "backup" systems are aimed to run a tank for 30+hours. On the other hand, I would have rented a generator after 6 hours.

    Agreed

My tunze return pump can last atleast 20 hours. But after 6 hours i would look at hooking up the gennie.
