    Hi guys

What method would you recommend to clean a tank that was used as a hospital tank recently and had parasites in it? Really do not want to reinfect my fish again!

I want to start using it as a holding tank?

    Thanks
    Willie.

I use bleach all the time when cleaning my seahorse fry tanks. I rince really well, then fill with tap water and use a dechlorinator.

Did you use any copper meds in the tank?

I normally use white spirit vinegar then rinse well then do I use regular bleech (Albex the green lable) then rinse well again then let it dry & after that it's ready to be used again.

YOu could use potassium permangeanate. Add it to fresh water in the tank till it turns a light pink colour and leave it for a day. The fresh water and potassium will kill any salt water parasites

    Hi williet

Sodium hypochlorite (Jik) works very well. It is a sodium so you will have to rinse it out well a few times after use. a 50% solution is very strong but for sterilisation do not drop below16.6% jik solution. Leave to sit for as long as possible (overnight is good). Rinse well before setting it up again for your holding tank. It is also beneficial to let it dry completely after sterilising and before re-filling it again.

    Happy oxidising

    David
