    Hi Guys

If I do not have a suitable skimmer available to run ozone through, how else can I safely run ozone on my tank?

have a look here and here

one needs to have it mix in the water column via fin bubbles, what about a DIY reactor that uses the air to carry the water from the chamber back into the sump and thru a carbon filter, will try this eve to draw what i am trying to explain

    Looking forward to your feedback.
My mv is 295-340 but I do have hassles with:
Carbon on the retun water as I have an internal skimmer and the return is very sensitive so as soon as the carbon sock gets even slightly blocked it affects the setting on the skimmer.

On the skimmer lid where the holes for air release are I have a stocking with AC.

    Cheers

So does the ozone have to be filtered through carbon in the water and then also through carbon into the air?

just the air part, eg say u added it to your skimmer, the return water should pass thru carbon as the fumes can be toxic

You're confusing me, now you just said the return water should pass through carbon, so that means the ozone must be filtered both in the water and in the air? :)

What about the air that escapes through the lid of the skimmer into the air - surely that is also "toxic" to a certain extent??

Yes, I know that definitely has to be run through carbon.

What skimmer are you running your ozone through Martin?

having read up, the excess ozone needs to be removed from the water only, the little that goes to the air is not bad for us, its only bad for fish, apparently it can get strong enuff to literally remove the skin of fish

So what you are saying even that little that is going into the air will kill your fish?

nope, only the O3 in the water is bad, the bit that leaves in the air is fine

i disagree dallas i have read it can be toxic if excessive and should be run through carbon before returning to the atmosphere, have a look at a berlin skimmer they are fitted with a carbon chamber above the collection cup to do just that..

viper you can use any thing (not only a skimmer) to serve as a reaction chamber. eg: a chamber in the sump with ozone being pumped in via an airstone so long as the water and air passes through a chamber of carbonupon its exit, or the ozone is going to be able to dissapate before reaching the end (return pump chamber). Ozone only lasts in water for a few seconds and thus does not present such a threat as "Ozone", but other factors are created through its use which can cause acids to form in your water (bromine etc.. spelling sorry).. the ozone works best if the air pulled is free from moisture.

the main things in place should be:
a reaction chamber (a skimmer is most frequently used although an ozonier can in fact reduce skimate)..
    an ozoniser
    a ORP controller.
    carbon to eradicate atmospheric release
carbon to remove excess in water if a small sump is used..

    hope that helps a bit

you should dose no more tha 5mg per hour per (i stand to correction) liter? cant remember but i will check...

make sure all fittings are ozone safe including your skimmer some air ports water ports arent and they will melt after sometime with ozone. Both air and water outlets need to be carbon filtered when using ozone
