    Hi MASA
    I just got myself a 575L tank.
I have got a sump but dont know how to get the water to it.
I can't drill the tank as the glass is tempered. And an overflow box won't work as I have metal frames at the top of my tank. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

You could always have an upflow sump.

Make a small overflow box that protects the return pump (and keeps fish from being sucked up) which send water into a sump that is higher than the tank. The water will return via gravity and some plumbing.

But what if the electricity goes off and the pump stops but the siphon carries on?

The siphon should break if done correctly

Is it possible to get pictures of your siphon system?

It was on my old tank. A hob overflow. It needs an airline drilled into the top of the siphon that pulls in air when theres no power.

Im sure some more knowledgeable guys will tell you how.

But then what happens when the power goes back on? Then the return pump goes on and the syphon is broken.

I'd rather go for an upflow sump.

I cannot help you with the overflow but must say that the metal frame will rust unless you properly treated it.

Ok did some research over the last couple of weeks and this is what i did. uploadfromtaptalk1469859930523.png split the pic up in A suction side in tank and B syphon side with down pype.

    A. Position 1 is normal water level 2. Position where water stops running to your sump. 3.this works with level in side B. Both level 3 & side B will level and syphon tube should remain full and start up once level in side A rise. Only if tube is air tight.

Remember you also need to think about your return pump, if power cuts there shouldnt create a reverse syphon

Yup drill a small hole just bellow the water level and that should break syphon on return side
