Should I have waited for a pump to help drain the display tank and the sump?

I was checking for leaks so I filled them both up. I discovered some leaks so I tried draining it and then water went everywhere. We used jugs until there was a little bit of water left and then I started unscrewing the overflow cylinders.

You could always syphon. Get a 25 liter bucket and you are good to go. Just DONT leave it unattended or you will have water everywhere.

and do not leave the electronics on the floor where it can get wet when you drain the tank.

Haha thanks mate. I will go and get one of those pipes with a ball on the one end for siphoning later today. I also need marine safe silicone/glue.

normal flexible hose will do. And use your mouth to start the siphon. 3m is nice length. You can see the water coming without getting water into your mouth. Available at any hardware shop.

Excellent thanks mate. In Zim we called the pipe with a ball on it a Tshontsha pipe. We used them when we had to put fuel in our cars that way. Lol.

Beer brewing shops sell an auto syphon if you hate getting water in your mouth.
