I have a Boyu TL 550, I would like to add an anemone (BTA) in a few months time.

What wavemaker would you suggest for a tank that size, or maybe not a wavemaker at all.

What can I do to make sure it does not get chewed up, how should I cover it.

Sorry for all the Qs but I just wanna make sure that wont lose it.

    Thanks

kukkie, I dont really think there is a 100 % "nennie safe" poerhead solution out there. The safest bet is a Closed Loop sytem

How would I go about it in a boyu 550, and will it still have random flow like wavemakers

what about covering it with the mosquito netting? what kiddies rockpool fish nets are made out of, just clean it every now and then?

Yes, the "mossie" netting packs up REALLY quickly - even faste than filter floss, as you are sucking large amounts of water through it.

IMO, the best way to cover up powerheads to avoid them from nailing nennies, is either:

Remove the powerheads from the tank, and through them into the SAHARA desert, as far from nennies as possible. Then build a CLS, but even this can be a design nightmare - ask me...

    or

I like the thoughts of placing powerheads at the bottom of tanks, then build aggcrate boxes around it, with only nozzle sticking out. Then place LR over it. The problem with my design though is how to you replace the pump if damaged?

So... conlcusion, CLS - and yes, you get EXCELLENT turbulance and random flow IF the CLS has been done correctly... ;)

Cost wise, the CLS does cost more than powerheads - I've paid this school fees so trust me on that.

I don't recommend the way the Seio is covered in that link. The others are pretty good. I have however seen an anemone get partly sucked into a sponge covered powerhead, rare, but it happens and depends on the amount of water moving through the powerhead.

When covering a powerhead you have to make sure there is not a lot of suction anywhere, not just on a smaller portion of the powerhead. The best way to do this is to build a barrier away from the intake. The farther away, the safer the powerhead.

Someone seriously needs to design a powerhead that is anemone safe.
