I’m curious on how the “floating base” works and how does one construct one. I notice that the glass get cut in panes and the silicone together with a seam, but in certain cases I notice there is a double base… does these two bases get silicone together?
I also notice, mainly on the Idol marine tanks, where the base is drilled for the return & overflow they make use of glass strips to lift the glass to make like a “channel” for the water flow, so what I want to know, is by this part by the overflow how does one construct the base part?

its as you said, its like that on @carlosdeandrade tank...
a floating base is a base that fits inside on the sides and doesnt have the sides resting on it, well thats my take and how i made my tank
you have one large sheet, then you use small sheets that are siliconed on to give you a second base with channels etc

... to have the channels in the base the base must be 3 layers off glass? The bottom then using the strips for the water channels and then the "floating base" ontop off that?

@flappy build has spacers (PVC piping) separating the main base to the floating base which is a little different to how you guys explained it...

The whole base is split into sections, not one solid piece of glass, this gives the base more flexibility and prevents base cracks. Floating bases is only really used on bigger tanks. Just to explain a bit more, it is like two bases ontop of each other, split in to two, three or more sections and then siliconesd to overlap each segment top and bottom.

A floating base is quite simply when the front and side glass panes are placed vertically side on onto the horizontal base glass

This system is most commonly used when the glass used to construct the tank is heavy and runs the risk of cracking the base glass with the added weight it imposes on the base...

agreed it is usually sections of glass where the joint seam between 2 pieces of glass is usually overlapped by a solid section of glass..
