Hi to everyone.I'm new at the forum.Started a Boyu TL550 in January.SO far everything's going ok,except I nearly died when my leather won't open 5 weeks ago. After 2 weeks it started to shed and since then it was more beautiful than ever. This morning it started to react the same way as it did 5 weeks ago-not opening. Can it be that it will shed again so soon after the first shedding?

I have no idea how often they do it, maybe it is just growing fast.

Hi Rolien, could you give us some more info on your tank, such as the water perameters, whether you use R/O water + salt mix, how often you do water changes etc - the more we know, the quicker help can be found.

The amount of light will also effect the amount of times it sheds as it builds up carbons it needs to get rid of. The amount of flow around the animal also factors whether then guy closes or not. I have lots of too and fro flow around mine and it never closes. I'm sure it just gets rid of the stuuf as it builds up because of the high flow without shutting up completely

i stand to correction but i think its natural for them to shed almost daily if you consider that the tidal pools in the tropics allow them to be exposed at low tide so this skin will form as a protective insulator of moisture.. i personally found that my leather shed more frequently in warmer water (30 - 34deg) they surprosingly survived my days before i could afford a chiller and did quite well.. this is just from what i have witnessed in my own tank..

If it is staying closed up for a long time I'm thinking its not getting enough flow. Can you move it to a higher flow area?

    Thanks anemone.
I'f put in my spare powerhead to give the leather higher flow. Lets see if this will do the trick.

Here is one of mine. I've never seen it closed up (until I moved it to another tank). It had a lot of flow.
