    Hi guys

I was wondering at what ozone concentration from a trustworthy generator, would effectively work as a means to sterilize a volume of water.

Contact time and effectiveness obviously has an impact as to the the amount of ozone available.

    ORP probe is in place.

    Input methods;

    into a reef octo-SRO 5000 external fed at 3000L/hr

or reef octo ozone reactor fed at 500-8000L/hr

    Hit me!

What do you mean by sterilization? Effective virus and bacterial deaths will only occur at 600mv of redox, which will also kill everything in the system. O3 is only effective in a controlled manner. Contact time of around two seconds via your skimmer air inlet or in an O3 reactor (which are very expensive).
O3 in marine systems is only really great for water clarity, it also aids in converting NH4 directly to NO3, skipping the NO2 step.

It's highly a highly corrosive substance, second is Cl.

Treat it with respect and it does wonders for your inmates. Keep the redox around 380-430mv or everything will be "nuked" in the system.

    IN SHORT, CONTROL!!

    Hmmmm.... wide open question.

depends on what pathogen or bacteria you want to sterilize.

Most will not survive at a pass rate of 33,000 microwatt's/sec/sq.cm

    oops UV

Isn't that UV Keith. I know UV injects O3 into a system, but it's not as effective as a O3 generator?

    Thank you guys,

I am attempting to set up a closed system jellyfish display. Water turnover will be pretty slow but I need to kill anything in the water.

The problem comes with jellyfish planula, the microscopic gametes they give off.

The main offender by far is hydroids that come along with our cold water lines.

UV is an option but I love my ozone because its always effective.

UV works wonders. I have four 55w units and a 5000l/h pump on. Introduced a Pwder blue into system with a tenniti already present and I have had no issues with WS.

Sochting oxydator does the same job as ozone but safer uses hydrogen peroxide and a ceramic catalyst that produces activated oxygen ... And won't kill you if you get it wrong
