    Hi Slummies -

    Just a few comments, mate:
    1) the heater does not run continuously - it works on a thermostat - and only comes on when the tank temp drops below the temp you have set the heater at
    2) the TS1 skimmer uses something like 20 watts per hour - not sure how much that converts to (in kilowatt-hours, which your house electricity is measured in?)
    3) the power-heads can consume ANYTHING from 10 watt to 30 watt....

It would be better if you can tell US what the exact wattages are of these electrical equipment, then someone really clever can work this out for you (how much kilowatt-hours this will translate to)...

Just remember: 1 kilowatt hour = 1000 watt PER HOUR (of electricity used)....

As Jacques said, we need the wattages of each of the pumps.

Also what you pay for electricity, each area differs slightly.... but here the maths....

    Eg: All estimates

    20w - Skimmer
    2*10w - Pumps
200w - heater - (We know, but working time varies)

Lets say for this Eg the heater works 50% of the time, IE 1/2 hr ON 1/2 hr OFF

    20w - skimmer
    20w - pumps
    100w - heater (at 50%)
    --------
    140w * 1 hr = 140wH or = 0.14Kwh

So the electricity used is 0.14Kwh, now time that by the rate at which you pay for your electricity, here in Durbs is about 70c per KwH.

Therefore it would cost 0.14kwh*R0.70 = R0.098 per hour.

    Times that by 24 (24hrs a day) * 30/31(days a month) = total monthly cost.

    About R70 per month.......

    Hope that makes sence.
