Don't laugh, in my 600L tank I only have about 10 hermits and snails. What is an adequate amount in a tank this size? I've heard of people with 10x this amount.

I've put a request in the wanted section so if anyone has a few extra they'd like to sell, please let me know

Well, that depends on the size of the snails and hermits.

do you have golf ball size Turbo snails? Or small marble size Narita snails?
Same on the hermits. Is it a Dardanus that is bigger than your hand? Or small, like in maximum 1cm accros hermits.

I have 20, maybe more hermits, 10 or more Naritas, about 5 Turbo Coronatus, 6 Yellow ring Cowrie snails (they grow max 28mm) and 5 Chitons. One big bristle star, loads of small type bristle stars and 2 cleaner shrimps. All of them in my 250L.

I have loads in my both my setups. I would say at minimum, I'm roughly stocking about 1 snail for every 6L and 1 hermit for every 10L of water in the display volumes.

My rock work and substrate is kept bone clean...I have not vacuumed my tank in years.

    Hey guys,

I am also wondering how much, is too much.

I have a 130L Boyu and so far it contains:

    1 x snail (turbo)
    1 x peppermint shrimp
    1 x red fire shrimp
    1 x cleaner shrimp
    1 x boxer shrimp
    1 x blue legged hermit
    1 x red legged hermit.

I would like to still get a star fish nd/or sea urchin and am not sure if that is just too much for my tank.

I only plan on having 3 - 4 fish and TONS of soft corals...

    What do you guys think?

Remember cUc are scavengers, so the limit is really how much detritus and rubbish u have in ur tank. Each play their own role in the scheme of things. So it all depends on ur fish load and feeding habits.
Hermits are good for large pieces of left over food and constants grazing.
    Snails are great for algae.
Starfish need large amounts of substrate and detritus to survive, they also good for left over food and can be feed directly.
Urchins should be left for advanced reefers as they need loads of algae and coraline, else their diet must be substituted with nori and the likes.
Shrimps are great, they add life and character to the tank, great scavengers of everything including food they steal from corals and anemones.

So the limit is really what food is available to support them. I have a boyu tl550 with 8 hermits, 1 brittle star, 4 snails and 4 shrimps and I feed heavily and target feed atleast once a week
