Hi all ,my 1,8m is running for a week now, and before that I runned the sump for a week on its one while the Tank was busy filling up with RO. In the sump is n protein skimmer 20-25kg LR and a DSB. The DSB is seeded with some live sand from Ernst (Die vis dam in V- town, Thank Ernst). In The DT is about 15kg LR and 25kg bio rock and aragonite, seeded with aragonite from my old tank. Bought a small fish and it survived it's first 24hr. The first week the water from the sump smelled bad and the protein skimmer took out a lot of crap! Know there is no smell and the protein skimmer is not taking out anything, the fish is looking good after 24hr, I need to put over all my corrals and LR from the old 1,2m do u think I can start potting over or is the cycle still on it's way or did it cycle that first week? There is a couple of turbo snails also doing fine at this stage.

Hermanus - the total cycling period in a new startup tank, takes about 6 to 8 weeks. Unfortunately, no matter what we try - there's absolutely NO way that we (as reefers/aquarists) can hurry up nature.
If you do try and rush things - you will most surely end up being very sorely dissappointed. And you will MOST likely end up losing a lot of lifestock....

Good luck mate - but patience is the key to successfully keep marines.

So - keep on measuring your water parameters. If you really want to - put the values in ie. MS Excel - then you would clearly see the sine curves that the ammonia/nitrites/nitrates follow....

Once your ammonia and nitrite have been 0 (zero) for at least 2 weeks constantly, and your nitrates have been very close to 0 (zero), then you can rest assured that your tank have reached the last 90% of the cycling time....

    Good luck....

Do you think that I must wait until the 6 weeks has passed before I put over the LR, and if I put it over now won't that have a bad effect on the corrals in the old setup?

Hermanus - no - specifically. You should wait at least until your ammonia and nitrite levels have been 0 (zero) for 2 weeks...... And your nitrate levels are as low as possible....

Hermanus, this lighting coupled with reflectors will be plenty for SPS corals. Go with 7 white and 3 actinics and you can seperate the blue and white for sunrise/sunset effects

Not all at ons the regal I sump-ed last week Monday when Ammoniac nitrite and nitrate all tested 0, nitrate smaller then 5ppm anyway, and then Friday I added the sail fin and mimic.
