    Hi all

I have a magnifica nennie, its bigger than a dinner plate at the moment and starting to get rather big for my setup... Feeding it every second day on different foods.

What i would like to know is how and when does a nennie split or become more?

They split when they get stressed. The H. magnifica does split in captivity, but it is not as common like it is with the BTA. I would cut back on the feedings.

What would you recommend for the feeding?

Yes maybe you should find another home for it if it gets too big. Feed it maybe twice a week. That right brenda?

Do you heavily feed the tank?

It's pretty rare that the H. magnifica splits, but it can happen. My guess would be that it won't split for you. There has been "some" success with propagation of the H. magnifica. A bigger home may be the best option.

Brenda you should change your name to Dr Anenome, it's nice to see also someone who cares for these precious creatures in others tanks. I lost my mag after nearly a year of keeping it, I just wish that the mags would be left alone. Hopefully propogated bubbles will cut out the demand placed onto the collecters.

    :)

    Thank you magman.

Sorry to hear you lost your magnifica. Propagation has cut down on the imports of the wild collected BTA in the US. Occasionally we see a new shade of the RBTA or GBTA being imported. As far as the magnifica…it is rare that a healthy one makes it into the US. Then there are the requirements that are difficult to meet. They are being collected at a higher rate than they are reproducing in the wild. In my opinion it isn’t worth it, and I agree they should be left alone.

I feed a mix of different sea foods like shrimp, fish, mussels etc. very second day and would give it 3 or 4 pieces of about 5mm X 5mm...Is this to much?

That's a lot of food. I would try feeding just one piece and see how the anemone does.

Try one piece every 2 or 3 days for now. If there are any changes in the anemone, let us know.

    Sorry, I missed this one.

They can get to the same size in captivity.
