    Hi there.

I am planning to get a Aquaclear 50 and covert it into a HOB Refugium. I came across the idea on the net and it seems like a very viable option to increase the filter capacity of my 25l.

Has anyone done this before? Did it add value to your tank?

    Thank you in advance

I have seen this done before. Instead of making it a refugium maybe look into making it chemical filtration like adding phosphate media and chemi pure.

this is a very good idea and works wonders for pod production as well. There are many DIY ideas out there where you can have a fug, as well as a place to put your heater and things like phosban and purigen. Google is your best friend here.

Also, you may not need an expensive HOB like the aquaclear as other less expensive HOBs will work as well. The international guys though do a lot of their DIY with the aquaclear so there are enough plans for the aquaclear.

    Hi,

I have used an Aquaclear 30 filter on my nano with purigen/charcoal/Phosphate remover, different stuff at certain types but they work well, running almost three years

    Thanks for the replies.

Yes I picked up on the aquaclear idea on the international forums.
There are a lot of plans and pictures available for the Aquaclear. And with my limited DIY skills, I think I will stick to them...:)

I am going to tackle the project and update my progress.

The guys oversees use Chaetomorpha is the hob. Does anyone know where I can find some? What else could I use in the hob that might work better, or as a substitute?

I am running Seachem Matrix in the filter chamber, together with the internal filter supplied with the tank. I have run this in my cichlid tank for a long time, and am happy with the results.

I also have live rock and aragonite in the tank.

The tank has been running for a week, so it is still cycling. But want to have it 100% before I add any fish or live creatures.

    Thanks
