Hi All, after a break of 4 years, I have started up a marine tank again. I am currently sitting and watching rocks as I wait out my cycle. As all of you know in the beginning, we can spend hours just staring at the rocks, which in my case, resulted in me noticing a critter which I haven't seen before. Obviously, I would like to ID it before getting anything else which it could harm. The attached photos aren't great so I apologise (cell-phone pic). Basically, it looks like a cross between an ant & spider, its black with orange dots on its abdomen. Is it safe/not. Thx in advance.

I only have my cell-phone, I have tried to enlarge it, but it just pixelates.

    Macfly,
Very difficult to see from your pic's, so perhaps try and get a better close-up shot.
Does it have pronounced pincers/madibles ?
Does it crawl or glide over the rock?

Will try see if I can get a better pic. I have noticed pincers or mandibles, but it crawls over rocks pretty much like an ant would walk over a rock.

Could be a pistol/mantis shrimp or even a crab. Let's wait till you get a better pic

From what I can see it looks like a nasty little critter.

Nope, I haven't seen it since taking the bad photos either so probably hasn't survived my tank's cycle
