    Hey all,

I currently have a Magnesium level of about 1600ppm (using red sea test kits). I specifically drove the Mg to this level by dosing Red Sea Reef Foundation C Supplement, in an effort to get rid of Nuisance Algae (which has worked to some extend but not quite 100%)

    Here are my questions:
1 - Is it ok to keep it at this level for a prolonged time?
2 - If I need to drop it back to around 1300ppm, how do I do that as it has stayed at this level for about 5 weeks now without any further dosing

    Thanks
    Vic

What salt are you using? Red Sea Coral Pro perhaps?

My Mg has been around 1600/1700 for over two months, and I've never dosed Mg. I dose only Foundation A & B (Ca and Alk). I've been told it's the salt keeping it high via weekly water changes.

I however don't know if these high levels are okay or how to drop it. I don't see any noticeable issues though. My tank's only neen running for just over 3 months, so I imagine the Mg uptake is low.

I only do 5% a week, plus replacing water after drip acclimating new livestock. I found it strange, as Red Sea claims Mg at 1300 for Coral Pro, if I remember correctly.

Anyway, I'm very new to the whole foundation elements balancing act, so I'll definitely be tagging along for some expert opinions.
