    Hi Everybody

I have been lurking on MASA for nearly 8 months now. My interest in marines started with a family member tank sitting for a friend. Originally I was interested in a Nano setup but I have decided to rater get a bigger setup from the beginning.

I'm now ready to buy a tank and would like as much input as possible before I take the plunge on the following points:
    • My place is small (flat) and open-plan so the tank itself has to look pretty and all the equipment must be hidden away underneath.
    • Noise must be kept to a minimum.
    • I want an inverter/battery backup from day 1. (With winter around the corner I don't want to take any chances with possible load shedding.)
    • The tank will be next to a cupboard that has a tap and drain. I would like the RO unit setup in a way to allow for automatic top-up. As much possible, within the limitation of my space, must be done to make water changes easier. (water that is removed can be pumped start into the drain maybe...)
    • I want to get some nice monitoring equipment and probes from the start, recommendations?
I'm in the Sandton area and would like to get in contact with somebody that can design, build and install the tank/RO unit/other plumbing or me.

    Cheers
    S

A VERY WARM WELCOME to MASA Schalk! Great that you have said "hi" at last! ;)

Awesome man! And it seems that you have been LEARNING a HUGE amount in the last 8 months, while you were "skulking around" MASA! ;)

    Great on you....

I am sure that some of our members will assist!

Good point Pete, I'm thinking of about 1.5m in length with a max width of 0.5m.

Schalk - I would rather go wider, and lower..... wider will allow you MUCH more capability in the aquascaping of the rocks on the inside... lower - meaning that you don't need such strong metal halides!

Welcome to MASA, hope you enjoy your stay with us. Sounds like you learned quite a bit during this time. You cannot go wrong by visiting Idol Marine - from what I've seen and heard they are top notch

I visited Idol Marine this weekend - they have a awesome setup and you won't find better advice.

Adriaan came over to my place to take some measurements and will be sending me some sketches on Monday. Yippee!

hey schalk, welcome to masa. Great to have you out of lurking and into posting.

i had a tank that was in my living room and i managed to keep the noise level down well, but choose the pumps carefully and make sure you get the durso working well.

i had 800l and you could hardly hear the thing circulation, the only real issue came in when i put the chiller in, so you might need to look at an alternative cooling system for that.

But great to have you on masa, look forward to seeing your tank build :)
