    Hi Dirkcnw, welcome to MASA.

Do share with us what you are planning to do? What are your interests regarding marine tanks? Fish only system, reef only, mixed?

May all your Q's find answers!

    Hi Gesiggie

At this stage I only have some life rock and one Damsel in my tank - I think a reef save tank will will be nice.

    @Dirkcnw

Why don't you give us a run-down of your tank specifications? Size, hardware?

How long has the tank been running?

We are all picoholics, so do share some pics!!

Oh and in general we all try to save the natural reefs...:)
We normally refer to fishes as being "reef safe" as in safe to keep with sps's, softies etc... ;)

    Thanks for helping already ;)

    I got a 130L Boyo tank

The tank is running for almost a year - but I have messed up and started all over again..

I have also started to get water from the two oceans aquarium - hope that is a step in the correct direction .

I am glad to hear that you got through your hiccups, and that you are willing to give it another go! A lot of newbies give up after their first hurdle, which is truly sad, as no obstacle is too big to overcome with patience and perseverance.

Seeing as you are in the Cape, there are a couple of reefers there, and you might benefit a lot from meeting up with them, and maybe visiting their set-ups. I know there are others that get their water from the aquarium.

The important thing to remember, is that not everything works for everyone. Each system is unique, and each system develops its own personality, just as unique as its owner.

The simpler you keep it, the more pleasure you can get from it, not having to worry about adding this, or forgetting that. Also, you should be able to ask ANYONE to be able to look afer your system while on holiday, so keep that in mind if you are a frequent traveller.

    But now I've said enough...

Where are all the Western Cape reefers?? Come on and introduce yourselves to the (not so ) newbie!!

    Cheers

    Advice on algae

    Hi everyone

I have attached a photo of my tank - at the back there is some algae growing,
Is it bad and can the fish and organisms feed on it.
Or must i get rid of it and what will be best way to ged rid of it if need be.

    Thanks

    Hi!

Lots of us on masa have the TL550. Mine is still very new but some of the more great established ones include @Len, @mandarinman, @Mc. @Arries has an awesome little Boyu too. I am sure there are more...

Good luck and looking forward to some pics

    Hello and welcome
If it is green hairy algae, then you do not want that to spread to your tank. Switch off all circulation and with a blade while you siphon water out with your next water change, scrape it off and suck them out.

Just keep an eye on your waste container, getting too busy scraping them off, overflowing your container. Been there, done that.
