    Hi Guys,

Joined your forum a few weeks back, I have been reading all the information I can - I am planning on starting a Nano aquarium in a few weeks.

As a nOOb there is wonderful information on this forum.

Thank you everyone, and I hope to be posing some questions soon.

    Kevin

    Kewl thanks,

after doing some research, I have come up with the following,

TL-550 vs 28G Quad Nano-Cube vs Custom Build

All of which have pros or cons. I am currently leaning towards a custom, this way i can include a sump to increase the water volume. I can run a metal halide light, for in the future, if I decide I would like to try some hard corals - but this is a long way off, for now.

The TL-550, is relatively cheap, but the lighting and skimmer will need to be upgraded.
The Nano-cube has a better lighting and skimmer when compared to the TL-550, and seems to be the better option to start up with. I have not found a competitive price range for Nano-cube, and am thinking upgrading the TL-550 may be cheaper.

Well those are some of my thoughts,
    Any suggestions?

    Thank you,
    Kevin

Don't go with the TL-550 you will just need to upgrade in a few months when you realise that you can't add more that a few fish and corals. Rather go custom build. I just sold my 900mm x 900mm x 600mm custom cube with everything (Skimmer, flow pumps, lights, sump, stand) for R5900. Also Metal halides aren't needed for hard corals. In fact my new system will be running T5's only and it will be hard coral dominated. Every new tank overseas is using T5's for hard corals.

    I started with a 1200 x 500 x 500 with a 3 foot sump.
Its six months later and I'm building a 1500 x 650 x650 with the old display as a sump.

I've upgraded my skimmer twice, my return pump twice.

Would have been cheaper in the long run to just do the custom off the bat.

In my opinion we just keep upgrading till the wife threatens to upgrade us.
then some of us downgrade a little to keep her happy and a few just wave goodbye and continue with the new build in their new townhouse for one...lol

Luckily I'm not quite there yet, but eventually i want a system that pisses my wife off properly, managing this with chocolate and flowers and a new car for her will have to be factored in to the price of that system. lol
