hello justin and welcome to masa, great to have you join:)

what sort of tank are you thinking of getting? do you have a size in mind and are you going to custom build it yourself or get a second hand tank?

looking forward to hearing what u plan :)

    welcome and happy posting :)

I'm still deciding on what to do. Do i go with a smaller tank to start with or do i take longer and get the size tank i would really like (1200-1500l DT):whistling:. I am looking at doing a DIY tank most probably building out of non toxic food grade epoxy and fibreglass seeing as i am a Composite Technician for SAA. Will be a lot cheaper to build a tank this way as i'll only need the front to be glass (excl the sump of course).

    Any advice on this?

welcome to the forum Mini Me lol

i would def say having moved over from a smaller tank to bigger ones that rather save up have go as big as you can, this way when you spend dosh you not spending it on things that you will most likely upgrade when you decide to move over to that dream tank of yours.

basically whatever your pocket can handle then that the size you go and dont forget to keep in mind the running costs aswell.

what you plan on keeping? this will also mostlikely influence what tank you will need to build and the relevant components.

hope this helps and feel free to ask away the guys will always help you out with great advise.

    Hello and Welcome

Around 250L to 500L is the best volume to start of with. Cheaper on the equiptment and big enough not to be so unstable on the water parameters like say a 100L or Nano system.

And the glass alone is not the only expensive part. But your Idea do sound good. There are a few tanks like that with only front view pane and rest of tank constructed out of cement and sealed. And the money saved on the glass could go into bigger skimmer extra pumps for waterflow.
